Survival Gallery: Tsunamis

If you’re living in a coastal region, pay attention! Tsunamis can cause massive damage to low-lying coastal areas after an earthquake and in many cases cause much more damage then the initial earthquake itself. Together, an earthquake and tsunami is a devastating combo that has killed millions of people this century. As many of you will recall the most recent major tsunami was the one that damaged the Fukushima nuclear power plant and killed upwards of 28,000 people (not including those who died afterwards from indirect causes). There’s also the 2004 boxing day tsunami that killed around 500,000 people (higher estimate). We encourage all of you to go on YouTube and look up videos of these last two tsunamis or check out the gallery below so you can get a clear idea of what to expect if you happen to live near the coast.

Survival Gallery: Earthquakes

Although earthquakes only occur is certain areas, they can spawn tsunamis that can travel across entire oceans. Also keep in mind while viewing these images that when a significant earthquake occurs, the electrical grid will go down, water/sewage systems will be inoperable, and roads will be too damaged for emergency workers, shipments of food/water to arrive. Fortunately the vast majority of earthquakes are barely felt, but every so often (about once per year) a strong earthquake will and hit and as was the case with the December 2004 Asian earthquake; about 500 000 people died (directly from the initial disaster, and much more from the water born diseases, and chaos that ensued afterwards).

Looting Pictures

When SHTF and the economy/civilization collapses, looting will become rampant and the grocery store shelves will be ransacked of everything within days! In some instances, even the store shelves will be dismantled and taken away. Once the grocery stores/restaurants/warehouses are emptied out, hungry/desperate looters will go for the weak, breaking into their homes, even using deadly force if need be. Below we’ve created an image gallery of looters so you know what to expect when SHTF.

Urban Survival Guide – How to Survive a Nuclear Blast

A nuclear weapon is one of mankind’s most dangerous weapons. A nuclear blast is characterized by an explosion on intense light, heat, a destructive wave of pressure, and an immense release of radioactive energy that can contaminate the surrounding area. A nuclear blast also releases an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) that can destroy electronic devices for miles around (1000s of miles if detonated high enough). It’s a well-known fact that hundreds of lbs. of weapons grade plutonium has been lost or sold by the Russian army and is now most likely in the hands of terrorists and rogue nations like North Korea. Many experts in the intelligence community are predicting with 99% certainty that a nuclear weapon will be used in America within our lifetimes! With the escalating tension between North Korea and the West, now is the time to prepare for a nuclear weapon being used in America!

The Importance of Personal Hygiene Post SHTF

Cleanliness is even more essential in the urban survival situation than in a normal environment. It’s highly unlikely, to say the least, that you’ll be able to achieve the ideal of a  hot shower with soap once a day, but you must strive for alternatives that come as close as possible. One method is the use of a cloth and soapy water, making sure you carefully wash the parts of the body that are prone to both infestation and infection, including the extremities, armpits, crotch, and hair. In the absence of sufficient water for such a “spit” bath, you can turn to the healing properties of the UV rays from the sun. Take off your clothing – as much as is practical under the circumstances and “sun-bathe” for a minimum of an hour, taking care not to risk getting sunburned.

Prepper Basics: Morse Code and the Phonetic Alphabet

Both Morse Code and the Phonetic Alphabet have been used by the military world over for almost a century now, and for good reason! Along with the many other things you as a prepper should learn and memorize, memorizing Morse Code and the Phonetic Alphabet should be on that list. Although Morse Code is no longer used in it’s traditional form, it can still be used as an unconventional method to communicate with others long or short distance using radio, lights, sound, and a variety of other methods. As for the Phonetic Alphabet, it’s primarily only used when communicating over radio/digital devices to prevent confusion between similar sounding letters. The Phonetic Alphabet is especially useful when communicating over choppy signals or when in loud environments. Several hours of studying is all it will take to memorize these codes, and it’s very likely you’ll one day need this information.
